The Elkhorn Valley Trails Network is a non-profit organization formed by interested citizens
to support trails in Northeast Nebraska. These trails might be used by walkers, runners, bike
riders, horseback riders, rollerbladers, or cross-country skiers, depending upon the trail's
location and surface. We look forward to seeing the
Cowboy Trail
connected from Ta-Ha-Zouka Park
to a system of trails throughout Norfolk.
We want to be of help to all communities in our corner of the state in development of trails,
including our state parks and recreation areas.
We have been in existence since June of 1999. We have developed by laws and have officers
as well as a board of directors and six committees. Our group is a member of the Nebraska
Trails Council. We have been involved in parades, Trails Day activities, rides and hikes on
the Cowboy Trail, and promotion of Norfolk's city-wide trail plan.
EVTN planned and hosted the 2001 Nebraska Trails Conference. At the 2003 Conference in Omaha,
they were recipients of the Niobrara Award, given to recognize outstanding contributions
to local trail development.
We feel that trails provide a safe place for people of all ages to exercise, enjoy nature, and
get from place to place. They make our communities more attractive, desirable places to live and
enhance our quality of life. They can also have an economic impact as visitors come to enjoy them,
staying at our hotels, eating at our restaurants and shopping at our stores. This, in turn, provides
jobs for our citizens. Trails can help to attract new employees and professionals to our area, as
well as encourage our own young people to stay.
We hope that you share our vision!
The Board of Directors of EVTN currently meets on the second Tuesday of each month. A general
membership meeting is held each May to elect officers.
